Yoga, as an ancient Indian wisdom tradition, transcends boundaries to serve as a universal cohesive force, uniting humanity in the shared pursuit of peace, harmony, and well-being. Rooted in the principles of inclusivity and oneness, yoga bridges divides—be they cultural, geographical, or ideological—and nurtures a collective consciousness essential for the greater good.
Swami Kuvalyananda, a pioneer in integrating the traditional wisdom of yoga with modern scientific research, aptly said, “Yoga is not merely for personal salvation; it is for the betterment of humanity as a whole.”His words continue to inspire us to view yoga as a unifying force capable of transforming lives and societies alike.
We recite, “Samastha lokaah sukhino bhavantu,” meaning “May all beings in all worlds be happy,” beautifully encapsulates yoga’s spirit. It reminds us that yoga is a journey not just inward but outward, fostering compassion and interconnectedness with all living beings. This profound prayer urges us to transcend individual well-being and work towards the collective good, resonating with yoga’s universal ethos.
As Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has profoundly stated, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfillment.”These sentiments align deeply with the Indian Yoga Association’s mission to make yoga a bridge to global harmony and well-being.
The IYA has been at the forefront of promoting this universal message, uniting diverse traditions and lineages of yoga under one banner. This issue stands as a testament to our shared commitment, showcasing yoga’s role as a global transformative force.
Let us embrace yoga not merely as an exercise but as a means to align ourselves with the rhythm of nature and humanity. Together, let us spread the light of yoga, ensuring it fosters health, peace, and unity in every corner of the world.
Warm regards,
Shri Subodh Tiwari
