As part of the nationwide celebration marking the 100-day countdown to the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, the West Bengal Chapter of the Indian Yoga Association (IYA) launched the inspiring “MISSION 500” Programme—a unique initiative aimed at engaging and empowering hundreds of yoga practitioners across the state.

The programme, led by the State Coordination Committee (SCC) of West Bengal, was envisioned as a mass outreach initiative to organise 500 events and awareness sessions across multiple locations. This monumental effort is part of IYA’s broader commitment to making yoga accessible, inclusive, and impactful in the lives of people from all walks of life.
At the heart of this initiative has been the tireless efforts of Shri Pankaj Bhagat, Secretary of the West Bengal SCC, whose dedication, organizational skill, and leadership played a pivotal role in mobilizing support and participation. Under his guidance, numerous sessions were held in educational institutions, community centers, and wellness hubs, spreading the message of yoga’s transformative power.

The “Mission 500” sessions included practice of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), interactive talks on yogic lifestyle, and awareness drives focused on the upcoming International Day of Yoga. Through these engagements, participants not only experienced the benefits of physical well-being but were also introduced to yoga as a holistic way of life rooted in mental, emotional, and spiritual balance.

The programme has been witnessing enthusiastic participation from youth, women, senior citizens, yoga teachers, and wellness professionals. It successfully reflected the growing spirit of community around yoga in West Bengal, and set a strong foundation for the lead-up to IDY 2025.
The Indian Yoga Association – West Bengal Chapter has reaffirmed its role as a dynamic force in the national yoga movement, and Mission 500 stands as a testament to what collective will and dedicated leadership can achieve in the service of public health and well-being.
