Jharkhand SC with SBU, Ranchi conducts a Webinar

Jharkhand State Chapter jointly with the Department of Yoga and Naturopathy of the Sarla Birla University, Ranchi organized a webinar on ‘Holistic Approach of Yoga During COVID – 19 Pandemic. Guruji Dr HR Nagendra, President, IYA was the chief guest.

The webinar was inaugurated by Prof. Kumar Rakesh Roshan Parashar, Head of the Department of Yoga and Naturopathy of Sarla Birla University. On the occasion, Dr. Radha Madhav Jha, Co-educational Coordinator of Humanities and Yoga shared information about the precautions to be taken in times of COVID-19.
Guruji Dr HR Nagendra in his address said that a person can lead a healthy life by practicing yoga, following the path laid down by our sages and safeguarding themselves from bacterial-borne infectious diseases. Addressing the seekers present on this occasion, he said that yoga is not only a science of the body, it is not only an exercise, but yoga is a life science. On this occasion, he appealed everyone to adopt yoga regularly in life to stay healthy.

Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh, Registrar, Sarla Birla University, Ranchi stressed upon leading an organized, restrained and disciplined life to stay healthy. Shri Amit Kumar ji, Secretary, Jharkhand State Chapter said that yoga is the only source of healthy life.

The other who were present in the discussion were Prof. Kavita Kumari, Ram Chandra Pandey, Dr. Parineeta, Prof. Sridhar B. Dandin, Prof. Sanjeev Bajaj, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, Prof. Rahul Vats, Prof. Riya Mukherjee, Shri Bhardwaj Shukla, Shri Praveen Kumar, Shri Aditya Ranjan and others.

Rajasthan SC Organizes an Online Discussion

World has come across a new threat in the form of COVID-19 which has left the world population deeply terrorized. This pandemic has brought to forefront the importance and significance of Preventive Health Regimes. Yoga is a way of life which keeps an individual in its optimum health (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual). Scientific studies on yoga have shown its role in strengthening the immune system for prevention from diseases.

IYA Rajasthan Chapter organised a webinar on ‘Scientific Measures of Immunity Development through Yoga- A Discussion’ on September 26, 2020 at 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm on Zoom. Dr. Jaideep Arya ji, Joint Secretary, IYA and Regional Coordinator, North Region, IYA was present as the special guest and Dr Hemant Bhargava of NIMHANS Bengaluru was the Keynote Speaker.
Dr. Jaideep Arya ji started the webinar with a detailed discussion on immunity and COVID-19. Dr Hemant Bhargava highlighted how stress have increased because of the lockdown and has affected our immunity levels which in many cases has been responsible for people falling prey to the virus.

Webinar also saw experts talking about the importance of taking a healthy diet and how it helps in developing immunity and fighting foreign bodies that adversely affect our body.

The webinar concluded with Shri Vinod Pareek, Chairperson extending thanks to everyone present. Other members of the Rajasthan State Chapter was also present.

Virtual Book Release

On 26th July, 2020, the book by Dr Latha Satish, Head, Research Council, KYM co-authored with Dr D Dwarakanath was released online. The title of the book is ĀSANA SAHAPĀṬHĪ – A Comprehensive Companion Consistent with Krishnamacharya Practices.

The book was released by a panel of distinguished guests namely Justice (Smt.) Prabha Sridevan (Retd.), an avid student of Sri TKV Desikachar. She was the chief guest. Other guests included Smt. Mala Srivatsan, past CEO, KYM & first Editor, Darsanam magazine, KYM, Shri A.V.Balasubramanian, Trustee, Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems & Member, Board of Studies, KYM and Dr. Padmavati Ramachandran, Director, SCARF & student of Sri TKV Desikachar

The book presents a comprehensive account of Principles of Asana Practice in the Krishnamacharya Tradition of Yoga. Tirumalai Krishnamacharya considered to be “The Father of Modern Yoga”, is a renowned Yogi, ayurvedic healer and scholar. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential yoga teachers of the 20th century and is credited with revival of Hatha Yoga.

It also vividly describes the methodology of designing an asana program followed in the system with presentation in stick diagrams peculiar to this tradition. It also covers a host of other special features like Chanting, Breath ratios, Krama Breathing, Vinyasas etc., in Asana practice extensively used by Tirumalai Krishnamacharya.

Each and every aspect is presented with model courses and also video demonstrations. A special feature of this book is the demonstration videos posted on YouTube channel could be viewed by scanning the QR Codes available in appropriate places in the book.

This work would cater to the interests of general public and more specifically yoga teaching community at large. It serves as a reference manual in the matter of designing individualized asana programs. Primarily this work also contains the asana techniques of selected asana and also a detailed exposition of basis of asana course planning carried out in the tradition.
