Yoga Sastra Sangamam : Bringing Yoga in Close Proximity 

With the aim to bring the pearls of Yoga Sastra close to humanity and to understand Yoga texts deeply and clearly, Yoga Sastra Sangamam was organised by Vivekanand Kendra, Kanyakumari with the support of Indian Yoga Association and in collaboration with Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod and from 9-11 January, 2020.

The national conference saw representation from 15 states. The program was inaugurated by Kum Nivedita Bhide, Vice President, Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari. Much revered Yogacharya from Vashishth Yoga Foundation Dr. Raghvendra Pai was the chief guest in the confluence. Dr.Nagarathna, Director, Standing Research Committe, Indian Yoga Association and Dr Prof Kambhampati Subrahmanyam, Chairman, Andhra Pradesh State Chapter Committee, Indian Yoga Association were the special guest. Shri Ravi Tumuluri, Joint Secretary, Indian Yoga Association was also present.

In her inaugural address Nivedita Didi apprised that we must not limit ‘Yoga’ to a mere physical exercise. Its scope is limitless. Yoga and the practices of Patanjali Yog Sutra can be very helpful for all of us.

The Sangamam primarily focused on topics, ideas, contents, interpretations of textual contents of various Yoga Texts like – Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Hatha Pradipika, Gheranda Samhita, Shiva Samhita, Yoga Vasistha, Bhagvad Gita, Vasistha Samhita etc. and the various practices enumerated in these texts. The Yoga Sangamam witnessed an intense discussion and understanding of the Yoga Sastra. Yoga Bharathi, Vivekananda Yoga Therapy Kendra, Hindupur, Swasti Yoga Foundation Pune, New age India Mumbai and Mangalore University also marked their presence.
