SAAC meets to finalise IYA Courses 

The Working Group of the Standing Academics and Accreditation Committee met for a two day workshop from 13-14 June, 2019 at Sri Sri School of Yoga, Art of Living, Bengaluru. During the meeting the mini­mum standards for three courses were developed.

The workshop was also convened to discuss about increasing the memberships through certification of stu­dents, development of courses / programs in yoga and yoga therapy, development of minimum standards for yoga and yoga therapy courses, development of a process to Accredit institutions / organisations for conduct of IYA yoga courses and programs and to reactivate the Academic and Accreditation Committee.

During the workshop it was decided that IYA Professional Certification Board (PrCB) will be the accrediting authority for conducting IYA Courses and would also conduct random site inspections on said organisations.

Dr Ganesh Rao was nominated to be the Chief Consultant for the development of yoga and yoga therapy courses and minimum standards for such courses. By the end of the two days the courses that were given a shape were:

a. Foundation Course in Yoga
b. Certificate Course in Yoga
c. Advance Certificate Course in Yoga

It was also decided that the IYA certificate would be awarded through Institutions and not to the candidates directly. The IYA certificate would be accepted throughout the world.

The meeting was attended by Smt.Kamlesh Barwal, Dr Ganesh Rao, Dr. Kausthub Desikachar, Shri Ravi Tumuluri and others.

Foundation Course in Yoga

The Course provides the minimum / basic common standards of Yoga knowledge and expertise. It is advan­tageous for individuals aiming to make a career in the field of yoga. The certificate is recognised world over. The students will learn from the Syllabi provided by the IYA to the accredit member institutes for conduct­ing the courses.

Certificates once issued by the Member Institutes to candidates on successfully completing the Courses will be permanent.

The individual applying for the course should be 16 years old. The duration for the course is 50 hours (Prac­tical: 40 hours and Theory: 10 hours).
