Greater Engagement needed to Spread the True Spirit of Yoga

The IDY 2022 is approaching and we see huge number of activities shaping up towards the celebrations. State chapters of the IYA are active and successful programs have been organized at Jharkhand, West Bengal, Kerala and other SCC have line up. The IYA is initiating its celebration from 1st to 30th of June 2022 by organizing a program each day on some very interesting topics. This gets together various member institutions and the benefits of being able to experience all of them at one place is possible for public at large. We look forward to reach to large number of individuals.

Since the new EC has come on board a meeting has been held each month. The effort is that we go forward by enhancing the participation of our members and member institutions. We aim to complete the execution of some important decisions, which have been taken in the past and at the same time, go forward with new ideation and its implementation. The IYA will soon come out with its first publication; the concept note which defines the philosophy of IYA is finalized and shall serve as a guiding spirit for each one who is involved. The tie up with the Health Sector Skill Council is fructifying, this will pave way for member institutions to take up the Assistant to Yoga Therapist program under the HSSC and also enable members to become evaluators, resource persons to take this program ahead.

While I am part of many committees at various levels of the Government and Academic Institutions, I feel that there is a huge need for collaborations and sharing of resources. Such collaborations would enable to strengthen whatever we are doing. One of the areas is, research. We see many institutions conducting research, but if we are able to come together, in addition to what each institution is doing, and identify some areas of multi centric trials, then the results would be qualitatively, far superior. The IYA has that strength, and probably, realigning to this would be the focus. We have received overwhelming response from LM for volunteering in the various standing committees, and I think this is a very good start. Because I always believe, well done is much better than well said.

I would request all the member institutions, associate institutional member to proudly display the IYA logo on their website and also where ever possible. I would urge all the members to freely use to logo on their social media handles. We need to expand the awareness of IYA and enable larger participation, and involvement. It’s for us to spread the true spirit of Yoga, and that is of effortlessness more than effort.

by Shri Subodh Tiwari, Secretary General, IYA
