Tackling Covid-19: Successful Strategies

from The Yoga Institute

In these times, contracting COVID-19 seems almost unavoidable, at least for those can’t stop travelling for work, study or other engagements. But leading a healthy lifestyle and making sure that digestion remains smooth and healthy can work wonders. Nobody would agree more than Shri Satish Rajaram Honkalas who recently found himself with an uninvited guest – the Corona Virus.
“My taste had suddenly gone, otherwise I had no symptoms,” remembers Satish. He immediately got tested and sure enough, the test came back positive. Already working for The Yoga Institute, Satish was accommodated at the Institute itself, eating its famous Sattvik food and drinking plenty of hot water and herbal tea. Other than that, no medicine or treatments were necessary. After the 15 days of quarantine Satish’s test came back negative.

“There are toxins in the body but the body also has a lot of healing powers,” says Satish. “Our digestive system needs to be strong for the body to heal unhindered. He swears by the Institute’s healthy Sattvik food that kept him well-nourished and energised throughout his quarantine. In fact, he felt no loss of energy so that he could even continue his regular regime of asanas, pranayama and kriyas like Kapalbhati to oxygenate the body.

“It is important to have a light dinner. I used to fast for 16 hours at night to give my digestive system a break,” he recalls. “That flushed out the toxins and had my body get rid of the coronavirus.”

A calm mental attitude is also of utmost importance and Satish credits his Yoga training for not feeling scared or anxious even once during his quarantine. Instead, he feels deep gratitude for those who helped him by providing meals and encouragement. He passed his time by watching Hansaji’s videos on YouTube as well as the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

“I am really grateful to all my teachers. Through Yoga, I have become calm and my habits have changed. I would advise everyone to adopt yoga to sail easily though obstacles like Corona virus.”
