As part of the nationwide countdown to the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, the Uttar Pradesh State Chapter Committee of IYA successfully inaugurated a four-day Yoga Camp at Balrampur District Jail on the 20th day of the countdown celebrations.
The camp was organized jointly under the aegis of the Indian Yoga Association (IYA), Indian Yoga Federation, National Institute of Holistic Health, and Yoga Sport Foundation, with the objective of promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being among inmates through the practice of Yoga.
The inaugural session was conducted by Yoga Guru Dr. Virendra Vikram Singh, a retired officer of the State Bank of India, who guided the participants through a structured Common Yoga Protocol-based practice. The session commenced with subtle yogic exercises, including movements for the neck, shoulders, waist, and knees, followed by a series of standing and seated yogasanas.
Participants practiced Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Trikonasana, Padahastasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Bhadrasana, Vajrasana, Ardha Ushtrasana, Purna Ushtrasana, Shashankasana, and Vakrasana. The session also included the practice of Kapalabhati, Anulom-Vilom, Sheetali, and Bhramari Pranayama, helping inmates experience the holistic benefits of yogic practices.
More than 100 inmates enthusiastically participated in the camp, demonstrating keen interest in adopting Yoga as a means of improving health, reducing stress, and cultivating inner balance.
District Jail Superintendent Shri Mukesh Kumar and Shri Shailesh Kumar Singh Sonkar played an important role in facilitating the programme. Addressing the participants, the Superintendent highlighted the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of Yoga and encouraged inmates to incorporate regular practice into their daily routine for a healthier and more positive lifestyle.
The programme was attended by Deputy Jailers Ram Pravesh, Abhay Kumar Yadav, Somnath Pandey, and Ran Vijay Singh, along with other jail officials and staff members.
