IYA State Chapter Committee celebrates 8th International Day of Yoga 

Chandigarh UT Chapter Committee

The Chandigarh Chapter of the Indian Yoga Association organized a Yoga program on the auspicious day of 19.6.2022, in the beautiful courtyard of the Community Center Panchkula, on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day of India, the World Yoga Day. The program started with the lighting of the lamp, in which Mr. Ajit Handa and Mrs. Krishna Goyal along with Vice Chairpersons Mr. Om Prakash Narang, Mrs. Sushma Goyal, members of Chandigarh Chapter and social workers Mr. Vinod Jain and Jaipal Garg, besides the President of Suraj Branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad. Shri Ashok Kumar, Secretary Shri Kansal, or Coordinator Smt. Uma Sharma and Yoga President Shri Tej Ram Garg attended. The Vice Chairperson Mrs. Krishna Goyal performed Protocol Yoga Asanas and Mr. Ajit Handa Chairperson did Pranayama, Meditation in a very beautiful manner. Shri Bal Krishna Kansal sang the yoga song and Shri Vinod Jain, social worker, describing the specialties of this program, congratulated him for the successful event. With the tireless efforts of only Bansal, Rameshwar Das, Rajinder Nath Sharma, the program was successfully organized. After the prayer, Shri Ashok Singla thanked everyone while distributing the prasad.

IDY2022 Celebrations by Pondicherry Chapter of IYA.

IDY 2022 was celebrated at Sri Kambaliswamy Madam, Pondicherry, India by the Pondicherry Chapter of the Indian Yoga Association and the Siddhar Bhumi Puducherry Yogasana Sports Association with performance of Common Yoga Protocol of the Ministry of AYUSH by hundred of members led by Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani. The event was supported by Pondicherry Tourism, Yoganjali Natyalayam, ICYER, Geetanjali Yogalayam, CYTER and other centres.

A mass demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol was held from 6.30AM at The Gandhi Tidal on the Pondicherry Promenade Beachfront. More than 300 students of the university participated as directed by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and UGC.

“Yoga is our cultural treasure and has a message of wellness for humanity” said Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry while addressing the SBV Yoga Mahotsav on 13th June 2022. This event was part of the countdown to the 8th edition of the International Day of Yoga celebrated with the theme “Yoga for Humanity ‘’ as announced by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his recent “Maan Ki Baat’ address.

She said that the theme for this year’s IDY appropriately portrays how during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic, Yoga served the humanity in alleviating the sufferings and in the emerging post-covid geo-political scenario too, it will unite people through compassion, kindness, foster a sense of unity world over.

“The practice of Yoga as a unified whole helps the individual shift from an ‘I”-centric approach to a “we”-centric approach. “Even illness becomes wellness when the ‘I’ is replaced with the ‘We’!”. she concluded.

The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has launched the Yoga Mahotsav 2022, a 100-day countdown for the 8th International Day of Yoga. The 100-day campaign is being organized in 100 cities through 100 organizations till June 21 across the globe. This includes Yoga programs, yoga demonstrations, workshops, seminars across the globe.

Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, one of India’s top 100 universities has been selected to organize the Yoga Mahotsav at Pondicherry on 13th June 2022 in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi.


The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the university Prof SC Parija presided over the event that was attended by functionaries of the university, faculty, staff and students as well as a large number of the general public.
The university also hosted a weeklong “International Yoga Therapy Convention” from 13-21 June 2022 featuring 20 eminent speakers from around the globe.

The International Yoga Therapy Convention was inaugurated by Dr IV Basavaraddi, Director MDNIY who delivered the Inaugural Address while the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SBV Prof SC Parija delivered the Yoga Day Address. Eminent International Yoga Experts such as Prof BR Sharma, VC of Sri Sri University, Odisha and Yogacharya S Sridharan, Senior Mentor of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai graced the occasion.

The event was organized by the CYTER of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth as per the guidelines issued by UGC and Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Yogachemmal G Dayanidy, Assistant Professor, was Organising Secretary of the event.

Yogacharya S Sridharan Honured with LifeTime Achievement Award

Prof SC Parija, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth honured Yogacharya S Sridharan with the Life Time Achievement Award on behalf of the Pondicherry Yoga Community on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga 2022.

The prestigious award was presented to him during the inaugural ceremony of the International Yoga Therapy Convention hosted by SBV with support of MDNIY, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India from 13 to 21 June 2022. Madam Sridharan, Prof AR Srinivasan, the Registrar of SBV and Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Director of the Institute of Complementary Medicine and Salutogenesis (ICMS) of SBV were present on the occasion.

Yogacharya S Sridharan is the Former Managing Trustee of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, Chennai. He continues to be an active member of the community as a Senior Mentor. He is Vice President of the Indian Yoga Association and has served with distinction on numerous committees of the Ministry of AYUSH including its MDNIY and Yoga Certification Board. A senior banker by profession, he held senior executive positions in a public sector bank before opting for voluntary retirement in 1997. He has been a student of Yogacharya TKV Desikachar since 1981 and has over forty years of experience in teaching Yoga in this tradition both as a Yoga teacher trainer and a Yoga therapy consultant.

He offered the award to the lotus feet of his illustrious Guru in loving gratitude.

Tripura State Chapter Committee

We celebrated 8th International Yoga Day in six of the eight districts in the state of Tripura, with two to three hundred people in attendance at each district event. We did the main event of the state in the capital city of Agartala, there was also a gathering of three hundred people. We also celebrated Yoga Day on behalf of our association in various colleges and army camps. Therefore, we have performed all the programs in a gathering of about four thousand people.

Uttar Pradesh – State Chapter Committee

The program was presided over by Shri Ashish Tandon, Coordinator, Varanasi Division. The program was successfully conducted as usual by Mrs. Deepa Srivastava, Coordinator, Lucknow Division. Today’s speaker Dr. Prakash Narayan Awasthi expressed his views on the topic of Webinar on Yoga & Happy Living.
