With profound grief and sorrow, IYA regrets to inform that Swami Mahadevananda ji, 81, left his mortal coil on August 30, 2021 in Chiang Rai, North Thailand, due to natural causes. He served the organisation for over forty years, including being Acharya for the Yoga Camp in Canada and Acharya for the centres in India. He was instrumental in developing SYVC centres in Canada, Italy, India, Thailand and Japan. His life was an example of guru bhakti for his guru, Swami Vishnudevananda ji, in whose name he served with complete faith until his last day.
Swami Mahadevananda joined Swami Vishnudevananda in 1968. In 1973, as one of his first students, he received the initiation into sannyas, the monastic order. He was the director of the Sivananda Yoga Center in Montreal for many years. In 1979, he went to India to direct the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Neyyar Dam. He built the Indian Sivananda Organization – especially in South India.
