Fighting away Corona with Yoga & Nature Cure

by Durgadas Savant, Yoga cum Naturopathy Teacher, Vice-Chairman, Yoga Vidya Niketan, Mumbai

Year 2020 brought an unknown virus ‘Corona’ with itself which turned the world upside down. Though I had always been aware of Natural Living, but never implemented it. After saving ourselves for almost a year, in the month of April 2021 all my family members including me got fever, back ache, cough and cold.

Initially after getting fever like many we considered it the common flu, but on checking our temperature we realized it is not so. We all immediately quarantined ourselves and shifted to natural diet. In addition, we all tried to stay away from negative thoughts. One of my major concerns was my 97 years old mother. She is completely dependent on us and it was a little scary for me. Fortunately, from last 75 days she had been on liquid diet, which detoxified her body and she was able to fight the virus successfully.

During the phase, we all avoided solid intake of food in the initial days of the disease. We took only Kadha made with Basil (Tulsi). We all consumed Ginger throughout the day. Gradually, we shifted to very light food like fruits chikku, pomegranate, orange, spinach (palak) soup, nachani soup, and rice kanji. We took lot of steam and had honey-turmeric mix before going to bed. We daily practiced Vaman dhouti, Sitkar-Vyutkram kriya for a fortnight and lemon shot thereafter. Our fever started declining on the fifth day though pain in throat still continued. We still had inflammation and pain in the chest. These symptoms did confirm that it was nothing else but COVID-19. As we continued with the routine gradually the symptoms started to fade away, but were still coughing and had loose motions for about 15 days.

Once the fever was gone, we all practiced kapalbhati kriya, bhramari rechak, sooryabhedan pranayama, ujjayi pranayama and omkar sadhana which proved extremely beneficial. In case of acute condition of lungs like Pneumonia, above practices may not be possible, but if Yoga and Naturopathy is followed then there is no chances of falling victim to such acute health issues.

After fighting away the disease successfully, I have realised that it is important to focus on mind and food here. The battle lost in the mind, can’t be won outside. Negativity and fear reduces immunity to a great extent. Wrong food also reduces immunity and increases cough, toxicity leading to complications. Thereafter, suppressing fever using various medicines might result in complications.

The primary cause for all diseases is toxicity in the body and not the germs; and if at all, then their contribution is only secondary. Accumulated poison makes favourable situation for the germs to grow. Acute diseases are healing crisis hence we should never suppress the symptoms

Keep Fighting and Stay Strong!
